The Curveball Lab is a hands-on learning platform where teams solve a real-life challenge — then adapt when things change.
Instead of lectures and tests, people from different countries and backgrounds work through a guided challenge with real people to help and real limits to work within. Partway through, a planned change makes them rethink their plan, listen to other points of view, and explain their choices. They get to practice the skills that matter most when things don’t go as planned: working well with people from other cultures, adapting, and making fair choices.
International teams
People from different countries work on the same challenge, learning to work across cultures while they build project skills.
A planned change
A guide changes the challenge partway through, so teams have to adapt instead of following a script.
Use it in real life
Guided reflection and check-ins turn the experience into habits that stick.
Made for Every Kind of Learner
The Curveball Lab fits schools, universities, and organizations, with programs built for each one.
The Curveball Lab Method
Five stages that work like real challenges do — building skills you can use outside the classroom.
Immerse
Teams get a real-life problem with people to help, limits to work within, and goals to reach. They dig into the facts, make a plan, and try a first idea.
Disrupt
The CurveballA guide throws a curveball — a surprise change like a supplier dropping out, a rule changing, or new facts showing up. Now the plan has to change too.
Adapt
Teams fix their plan, weigh their choices, make new decisions, and show the facts behind each one.
Reflect
On their own and as a team, people look back at what they got wrong, what they learned, and how their thinking changed.
Transfer
People plan to use what they learned in real life, with check-ins at 30 and 60 days.
How a Challenge Unfolds
This make-believe story shows how the five stages work in real life.
Clean Water Access Initiative
A small town does not have enough clean water. A team of four is asked to come up with a lasting plan to fix it in 12 weeks.
The team reads the problem, finds where water comes from, talks to local people, and looks into ways to clean the water.
The main water-filter supplier drops out. The team has 48 hours to find another option and still finish on time.
The team switches to town-run wells, changes the budget, and writes down why this new plan is better.
Looking back, team members see their thinking change — from just the tech side to how the whole system works together.
Each person plans to think about the whole system in future work, with a check-in at 30 days.
This is an example that uses made-up details to show how The Curveball Lab method works.
